Hydrangea are some of the most beautiful flowers you can experience during a Japanese summer. Hues of white, pink, blue, and even purple astonish the eyes and blend perfectly with the green foliage and traditional Japanese temples and shrines. If you’ve ever walked around Kyoto, or Nara – you’ll know!
So it’s no surprise that hydrangea, known as “Ajisai” (紫陽花 or あじさい) is the inspiration of many different wagashi. We’ve decided to create some for you in this week’s box. These wagashi are a lot more complicated and detailed than regular wagashi but it’s totally worth it!
